Assurance Of Victory

1 Corinthians 10:13

13.No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

My study this morning was on the scripture above. 1 Corinthians 10:13 speaks of God’s faithfulness and how he will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear, and he will provide away out,we call this assurance of victory. 2 Timothy 2:22 says flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Also see 1 Timothy 6:11. Running away is sometimes considered cowardly. But wise people realize that removing themselves physically from temptation often can be the most courageous action to take. We must have a active faith, Paul uses active and forceful verbs do describe the christian life, like flee, pursue, fight, take  hold. We must obey God with courage, and always be obedient. We see the words above as verbs because when we move and trust God we have assurance of victory.

In 1 John 2:15-16 it shows us 3 areas of temptation, 1.The cravings of sinful man-preoccupation with gratifying physical desires. 2. The lust of his eyes – craving and accumulation things, bowing to the god of materialism, and 3. boasting of what he has and does- obsession with ones status or importance. When the devil tempted Jesus in the desert, these were his three areas of attack. (see Matthew 4:1-11). In 2 Thessalonians 3:3 it says the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect us from the evil one. As we pray, and as we are obedient, and we listen , God will protect us and give us strength to gain victory. We have a high Priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses, He has been tempted in every way just as we are- but He is without sin. Hebrews 4:15 (paraphrased). Here are some things we can do to keep temptation from leading into sin.

Matthew 6:13 – Pray to be delivered

Psalm 119:9 – By living according to God’s word.

1 John 5:4-5 – believe that Jesus is the Son of God

Hebrews 4:16 – approach the throne of grace with confidence.

James 4:7 – Submit ourselves to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

What is a temptation that frequently seizes you?

What do you think God’s way of escape is?

Answer these questions in your heat or even share, but always remember, we have a high priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses. PRAISE GOD!
